International Night

On Tuesday my class performed a Bollywood dance called Chunnari Chunnari and a Song called The Lonely Goatherd with Swiss yodeling in it.

Each class chose either 1-2 countries to do research on and learn a dance or song to perform on the International night, you also had to make some food that comes from the country you are researching.

When it was my class's turn to dance I felt pretty nervous but then when we finished it I felt kinda proud. Some of the food that was on our table was Butter Chicken with Naan bread, CousCous, Chicken Gourmet, Chocolate covered Marshmallows and Strawberries, Rice, Apple strudel, ect.

And that was our International night.

Pet Persuasive Letter

W.A.L.T Write a persuasive letter - Letter Template

                                    Jennifer Courtier,                                         Miss Pownall,
                                    Room 2,                                                       Room 2,
                                    NBC.                                                            NBC.

Dear Miss Pownall,

I strongly believe that we should not have a dog in the classroom because the dog may distract kids while doing their work, some kids may be scared of dogs and the dog may get hurt because the children might get excited to see Charlie and then they’ll start screaming and be rough to Charlie.

Firstly, Charlie could distract kids while they are doing their work.
A lot of people think that dogs are cute, sometimes kids will pet animals while they're supposed to be doing their work and they will get distracted and might get told off for not getting their work done. For example I was doing homework at home and my dog came up to me and distracted me from doing my work. Also studies show that during class dogs can be an amazing learning tool but they can also be a big distraction.

Secondly, some kids may be scared of dogs and may not feel safe around them. Kids could get anxiety when they are around dogs or when dogs are coming close to them. For example one of my friends has a big fear of dogs, she gets anxiety whenever a dog comes close to her and touches her.

Finally, kids around the school might see Charlie and get excited to see him and be too rough to him. Charlie could get too excited and hurt some kids. Studies say that if there are too many kids around one dog the dog could get too excited and hurt some of the kids.

In Conclusion I strongly believe that we should not have a dog in the classroom because of these three reasons Some kids may get distracted, some kids might be scared of dogs and we might hurt the dog and the dog might hurt us. Thank you for listening to my argument.

Yours sincerely,

Jen.

All children should have pets

W.A.L.T Write a piece of persuasive writing

It’s outrageous that people think children shouldn’t have pets!
I think this because they are very cute, helpful and good for the blind and for
people that might special needs.

Firstly pets are very cute and bring out the best in children/people. A pet that I
think is very cute is my Nana’s Ragdoll called Honey. These are some reasons
why I think Honey is cute.
  • She has beautiful Turquoise eyes.
  • She is very calm and cuddly.
  • She loves everyone.
  • And she helps you feel better when you’re feeling down.

Secondly some pets are very helpful. They can guard you and help you when you
need it. They people that might not be able to do simple things like: Get up and get
something from across the room/in a different room, or Walk down the driveway
and get the news papers every morning.

One of my friends has a Labrador that they trained to get the newspaper and get
drinks from the fridge for someone etc. If you train your dog it could possibly save
your life!

Finally pets are very good for blind and people that might have special needs. I’ve seen people in public with guide dogs. Pets can help people with all sorts of disabilities which means they are very needed in our community.

In conclusion, all children should have pets. This is because they are cute, they are helpful an they help people with disabilities. Thank you for listening to my argument.

Book Review!

                             W.A.L.T Read for Enjoyment

Title of book: Shadow
Author: Michael Morpurgo

What was the book about?
The book was about a boy and a dog who had a great relationship with each other, Aman (the boy) called the dog Shadow because you will never lose your shadow.

Aman, his Mother and his Grandmother lived in a cave in Afghanistan, Shadow would always stay outside because Amans Grandmother wouldn't let Shadow inside the cave. Shadow was always with Aman until Shadows real owners found her and took her away.

I really like the book because its very interesting and emotional.

The Crayons That Quit

                     W.A.L.T Write a persuasive letter

Jennifer,
Black Crayon here.

Listen up buddy!
I've written you this letter because I want to tell you how I feel.
I remember the days when you always used to use me,man they were happy days.

But now you use the Grey Crayon instead of me, and now i'm stuck with Beige crayon in your old crayon box. Beige crayon always makes me look the opposite way ever since you peeled of his papers, he's VERY Embarrassed.

Ever since you brought that new crayon box you've forgotten about me!
I would really appreciate if you would use me more.

Your new black crayon makes fun of me because you use him a lot now.
You just look at me then look the other way.

Your very sad friend,
Black crayon.

Mission Oceana

This week for Hot spot Kloe and I made a slideshow about how most of us are throwing our rubbish out into the environment and how we can save the oceans/sea animals from dying.

We hope this slideshow will show you the damage we have done to the environment and that we helped spread some positive behaviour towards people that have been throwing their rubbish in the oceans.

The Little Shoemaker

                                       The Little Shoemaker

W.A.L.T Analyse and create a character description.

Today I am going to tell you about The Little Shoemaker.

The Little Shoemaker is short, proud and hardworking. He wears square glasses, a blue button up top, a dusty brown apron and little brown boots. He stands up with a straight posture and with his hands hanging by his sides. He lives in a small city in Paris.

He makes shoes day and night until he's happy with the final product. He walks like a fast penguin. He works at an old fashion shoe shop where he makes all of his shoes.  His friends are his shoes, in the Shoemaker film he doesn't have any real friends (humans).  He has dark hazel eyes, light brown spiky hair and a moustache.

Now you know about The Little Shoemaker!

W.A.L.T Respond in detail when answering questions

This week I am reading the book Te Kura Tuatahi (New Zealand's first school)

Thomas Kendall worked for the Church Missionary Society which was based in England.

I think the missionaries had a negative impact on  the Māori because they would punish the students if they spoke their language (Māori).

Thomas Kendall was a christian from England and he came over to New Zealand and told the Māori that he would teach them how to read and write but even though the Māori had their own religion Thomas Kendall said that they would have to be a christian.

R.E Mary

  • Mary is the Mother of Jesus.
  • Mary wears a white dress, a blue cloth that goes up to her shoulders and a white cloth on the top of her head.
  • Mary is very kind and caring and she was a great mother as well as a follower of God.
  • Mary's Family were: Saint Joseph (her husband), Jesus (her son),  Saint Anne (her Mother), Joachim (her Father), Mary (Aunt), Sobe (Aunt), Emerentia (Grandmother), Stollanus (Grandmother), Matthat (Grandfather), Estha (Grandmother)
  • And that's Mary!

Archery Tag

10.03.2020                   Archery Tag
On Monday 24th of February 2020, the Year 6’s went on camp to Living Springs for a school camp, my favourite moment was Archery Tag.

On Tuesday we went to a field to play a game of Archery Tag.
Alex (one of the staff at Living Springs) split us into our house colours. but if the numbers were uneven, he would take some kids out from their group and add them to the group who have less people.

Alex taught us how to hold the bow, how to shoot from the bow and then he taught us how to shoot from the bow and arrow.
After Alex taught us everything we had to know, he put us into groups and then we had to put face masks on so if we get shot in the face it wouldn’t hurt.

On each teams side we had these inflatable shields and two foam targets.
If we shot out all of the other teams targets then we win.
It was also cool how Alex played star wars music while we were playing.

Thank you Living Springs for this amazing opportunity to stay with you, I had an amazing time and I think we all did!
Hope to see you again.
